Where we work
One standard of evidence, every state.
Tax law is federal; your accountant's postcode is irrelevant to the ATO. We run engagements for clients in every Australian state — by phone, video and secure portal, from our Brisbane base.
The work of preparing a defensible tax return is document work: income reconciled to statements, deductions substantiated by records, positions written down. None of it requires you and your accountant to share a suburb — it requires a disciplined process, and a way to move documents securely. We built the practice around both.
Engagements run the same way in every state: a booked phone or video appointment with the registered tax agent who signs the return, documents exchanged through the client portal rather than email, and every significant answer put in writing. Interstate clients are not the exception here — they are the design.
The practice is led by Joseph Masoud, who has taught taxation and finance at four universities and worked as a Finance Manager and Financial Controller. It is based in Brisbane (postal address PO Box 165, Mount Ommaney QLD 4074), and the ATO — like the tax law it administers — is the same everywhere.
What we see from remote clients
- People who stayed with an accountant who suited an old suburb, not their current affairs.
- Documents scattered across email threads no one can find when a question comes.
- Returns lodged by a different seasonal preparer every year, with no one holding the history.
- Interstate moves, property in one state and work in another — and no single adviser reading the whole picture.
How the remote engagement runs
Appointments by phone and video
Booked times with the registered tax agent — around work hours and time zones, without a waiting room.
A secure client portal
Documents move through the portal, not email attachments — organised, retained and retrievable when a question comes years later.
Everything in writing
Advice, positions and quotes are documented. Distance removes hallway chats; the file replaces them with something better.
The full practice, remotely
Individual, business and international tax, ATO reviews and catch-up lodgments — every service runs identically at distance.
One adviser, whole picture
Property in one state, work in another, family spread further — read together in one file, by one practice.
Every remote engagement builds the same eight proofs as a local one — the ATO never asks where your accountant sits, only whether the figures can be shown. See our method →
Common questions
Can a tax agent in another state really act for me?
Yes. Tax agents are registered nationally and the tax law is federal — the ATO makes no distinction based on where your agent works from. With your authority we act for you with the ATO exactly as a local agent would, and the correspondence runs through us in writing.
How do you check my documents without meeting me?
The same way we would across a table: by reading them. Statements, receipts and records come through the secure portal, we reconcile and query them, and the appointment is spent on the questions that need you. Most clients find the process more thorough, not less — nothing is skimmed in a meeting room.
Is the portal safe for tax documents?
It is access-controlled, and downloads use expiring links — and it exists precisely so records are not scattered across email threads. Never send a tax file number through a contact form or ordinary email; the portal and the appointment are the right channels for sensitive details.
I have property and work in different states. Does that complicate my return?
It complicates the picture, which is exactly why one practice should read all of it. Income, property and family positions across states still land in one federal return, and we prepare it with each piece reconciled to its records — wherever those records were created.
How do fees work for remote clients?
Identically to local ones: quoted in writing before work starts, based on the engagement's scope. Distance changes the meeting format, not the price or the standard.
General information only — not tax, legal or financial advice. Advice specific to your circumstances is provided within a signed engagement.
