Where we work

Forest Lake's returns, prepared to be checked.

Families, first investment properties and side ABNs. Forest Lake's tax questions are ordinary ones — which is no reason to answer them casually.

Forest Lake is a short drive down the motorway from our Mount Ommaney base, and its households bring us the questions most growing families eventually meet: two incomes and a mortgage, a first rental property, a side business run after hours, parents helping adult children into work or study.

Ordinary questions still have evidence attached. The rental deduction is only as good as the loan statement behind it; the side ABN only as clean as its records. We prepare returns so each answer is written down while it is easy to find.

Appointments run by phone or video around family and shift schedules, with documents through a secure client portal — and the same practice serves clients in every Australian state.

What we see from Forest Lake

  • First rental properties with the loan redrawn for private spending and the interest never apportioned.
  • Side ABNs earning platform income that never made it into the return the ATO cross-checks.
  • Two-income households claiming the same deductions two different ways.
  • Returns self-lodged in minutes that take years to unwind when a question comes.

What we do

Family tax returns

Both returns prepared together so offsets, deductions and family positions are consistent rather than contradictory.

First rental property

Interest apportionment, depreciation and expenses set up correctly in year one — the year every later year copies.

Side ABNs and platform income

Rideshare, delivery, support work and after-hours trades — reported on the right schedule and reconciled to the platforms' own data.

Catch-up lodgments

Outstanding years confirmed with the ATO, records rebuilt, returns lodged in order.

Tax bills and payment plans

Where a year ends in a debt, we help put a realistic payment proposal to the ATO instead of a silence.

A Forest Lake return from this practice is built the same way as a company file — evidence first, lodgment second — because the ATO does not lower the bar for households. See our method →

Common questions

Where are you, relative to Forest Lake?

The practice is based in Mount Ommaney, a short drive up the Centenary Motorway — though appointments run by phone and video, so most clients never make the trip. Correspondence reaches us at PO Box 165, Mount Ommaney QLD 4074.

I drive rideshare after my day job. Does that change my return?

Yes — platform income is business income, reported on its own schedule and reconciled against the data the platform sends the ATO. Deductions follow the records, and whether GST obligations apply depends on your circumstances. We confirm all of it before anything is lodged.

We're buying our first investment property. What should we do first?

Send the loan documents, settlement statement and any depreciation report through the portal before a first appointment. How the loan and expenses are set up in year one determines how defensible every later year is.

Can you prepare returns for the whole household?

Yes, and it is the better way — deductions, offsets and shared positions stay consistent across the family instead of quietly contradicting each other.

What does it cost?

It depends on the work — a wage return and a return with a rental schedule and a side ABN are different engagements. We quote before we start, in writing, so the decision is yours before the meter is.

General information only — not tax, legal or financial advice. Advice specific to your circumstances is provided within a signed engagement.
